We have some roads and some taxiways. The building setbacks are larger on the taxiways for obvious reasons. However, cars are always driving on the taxiways, and smaller planes are using the roads. Our main access road, Cessna Dr., occasionally has aircraft traffic. All the taxiways and roads, with the exception of the main taxiway are on private property, controlled with easements. Many of the hangars are on the opposite side of Cessna Dr. and required taxiing across the main access road. We have signs at those intersections, "Yield to Aircraft". The main parallel taxiway has signs as you approach from any of the adjoining taxiways and roads saying something like "aircraft only past this point". There are detailed FAA rules for clear area from a runway with an instrument approach. My airport is dealing with that problem now. We have a couple buildings that are not far enough from the runway for us to get a GPS approach. _http://www.meadowlakeairport.com/_ (http://www.meadowlakeairport.com/) Mike Easley Colorado Springs, CO PS The FAA isn't real happy with our traffic arrangement. It would be virtually impossible to fence off our airport. Some of our hangars have non-aviation uses.
