A note on the general topic of the ES/ES-P nose
gear.
After reading a number of horror stories about nose
gear shimmy and experiencing it myself on a training flight in N407L, I took
some premtive corrective actions. First - I installed the new Lancair nose
gear. After all the time and money that Tim et al put into its design I
figured that to be a wise start. I then stiffened the nose wheel pant with
lots of graphite: 3" wide strips running fore-to-aft inside the top and
along both sides, and graphite bulkheads forward and aft that tie those
strips together. End result - no vibration at all regardless of weight or
touchdown speed.
