FWIW:

Avemco failed to cancel my coverage when I switched to another company.
They kept billing me and sending rather nasty dunning letters demanding
payment, and eventually sic'd a collection agency on me.  All this
without ever responding to my letters and phone calls.  I finally
contacted the Ohio attorney general's office dealing with insurance
fraud.  A single letter from them to Avemco shut them up and got the off
my case.  

So if you deal with Avemco once they might make things tough when you go
elsewhere.  I would not trust them.
