anyone who claims 3000 hrs or less(without bodywork, paint, interior) either has done it numerous times before or is unrealistic or lying or has developed alzheimer's during the building process.  although i  do not have exact numbers at this point i know that my bodyman alone has 1500 hours in largely cosmetics although he has done some custom work taking hundreds of hours ie custom carbon seats, etc.   he is also a perfectionist but a lifelong  expert at composite work.  thus, i think to completely build a nice airplane, it is not unrealistic to expect upwards of 4000-6000 hours unless you have prior experience or do it at a pro buildshop or at lancair's builder assist which if i were to do it again would probably be my preference if i could spare the consecutive time off. just my opinion.

Gents:

This is a wide open question, but I'm curious.

On average (if there is such a thing), how many man hours does it take to
complete the construction of a Lancair IV-P?

IV-P under construction

Doing body work --  lots of sanding (cough cough)

No clue when I'll be done.
