Dan - I looked at this a couple years ago.
It appeared at the time that the NEWEST hartzell scimitar is if slower, not very much slower than than anything else out there.
If you search at lmlonline for props you will find various posts from which you can piece together your own opinion.
I have the full feathering version. I was adamant about having it. Haven't flown it yet. but if you look through all those posts you will find an attachment somewhere that shows the glide ratio of non-windmilling "coarse pitch" vs. fully feathered. There's not a lot of difference! ...and given the typical CG on a legacy, I would think you would be better off without full feathering.
As for MT, I ran into a guy at lunch today that knew the legacy driver that lost a prop blade at orange county new jersey. it sounded like it was an MT but I don't have the facts. Maybe one of the safety experts on lml can comment.
