To call this claim extravagant is not exaggerating:
"What now has me absolutely intrigued is the water cooled engine results. In a package of test results sent to me was the results of a customers third party tests on one of the Zehrbach engines where the engine returned an SFC of .32. Since Continental hopes to get .36 out of the diesel they are developing it would appear that Zehrbach has been able to beat the diesels by 12% on fuel burn."
I am so pleased that in one single step, we now have available gasoline fueled engines that provide better fuel consumption than the best diesels (presumably of comparable size). The magnitude of such an advancement takes one's breath away. More progress in a single step than all that obtained in the last 50 years. Where do I write the check? I'm ready, if only someone will provide some independently verifiable third party data. I am sure that the Society of Automotive Engineers would be more than willing to provide full test facilities and testing services, free of charge, to verify such extraordinary performance claims. I am sure that the Nobel committee will seriously consider granting one of its highly esteemed prizes once the performance claims are confirmed. I can hardly wait to bolt one in my Lancair IV. Just SHOW ME THE DATA. Testimonials are unnecessary. Just simple proof.
Not just skeptical, I am now incredulous. Just think. Greenhouse gas emissions reduced. Global warming mitigated. Oil companies bankrupted by lack of demand for their products. Greedy Arabs put back in their place. 100 mile per gallon autos in each garage. All now within our grasp and sure to materialize shortly. How stupid of all the world's technologists to miss such an opportunity for improvement. At last we free from their narrow-minded thinking.
We live in a wonderful world. It gets better every day. All I ask: Independently verifiable data from a party with no interest in the outcome. It is so little to ask in the face of an advancement so awesome. Please?
