Steve,
The addition of the passenger pedals has a big influence on the pedal force since there are now two sets of return springs to push against.  Lancair came out with lighter return springs a number of years ago to help alleviate this.  On my plane, I switched to the lighter spring on the passenger side and removed the springs altogether on the pilot side.  (Two long light springs attached the firewall keep the pedals from falling back).  I also squirt LPS2 up the tubing every five years or so.  Others have used a Teflon powder for lube.
