After being advised that the blades were unserviceable, an inspection of the blades at MT USA, proved that to be in error. The blades are in-fact serviceable and will be recovered and returned after completion of the overhaul. There is one item MT drivers should be aware of; when the six year inspection is due you will have to have your hub machined to accommodate the new stainless steel seal races at a cost of about $1,000. The prop is then overhauled because of the machining requirement so plan on spending about $4,000 for the complete job. I don't know at what point MT began the new hub configuration, but if your prop is 6-7 years out it is a good probability you will need the update. "Dear Pat, our people at MTP USA inspected the blades and they are fully airworthy and have no cracks at all. The only marking we found was a shrinkage marking in a bonding are. nothing else. So we will install the new blade ferrules and put new glass fiber in the inner area of the blades then your blades are like new again. We had to remove the glass fiber for inspection. As I informed you we never had cracks and therefore I really wondered what was going on. We trained our business people that they ask more detailed and only let engineering answer a question in case somebody is asking about cracks in a blade. So it was and is safe to fly an MT-Prop." I am thankful for the full inspection and appreciate the quick response by MT. I had visions of MT props coming apart, but now feel comfortable with the fact that MT has never lost a blade.
