In the down/locked position, the cylinder is fully extended and the rod end MUST be adjusted so that there is no force applied to the overcenter link, thus the OC link is held locked but "feels" no load from the cylinder. This must be precisely adjusted, because if you're off by only a few thousandths, the full force of the cylinder will be applied to the OC link (and both attach points will be unnecessarily loaded). Although this may be "dry run" when building, it must be checked and set with the system operational, because the cylinder end cap will shift slightly under actual load. The up stop is then set for full retract using the "stop collar", with washers as shims to achieve a reaction against the cylinder end cap. This is also somewhat critical, but not as much as the down stop.
