There is no such thing as a "safe" aircraft. Mr. Webster defines safe as "Free from danger or risk of harm." Does anyone know of an aircraft that may be described as such? Truly, only the pilot makes an aircraft safe (or unsafe). We are all in the risk management business -- safety is merely the desired byproduct. The lesson to be learned (as in almost all aviation accidents) is the requirement for constant vigilance. As we mourn the loss of friends (even those we don't know personally, for I consider ALL fellow aviators friends until proved otherwise) we do ourselves and our community a disservice if we forget it. As for Mr. Ayers: I consider his comments the verbal and moral equivalent of a flaming bag of dog excrement left on the LML's doorstep for the rest of us to deal with. In my opinion, his choice of words can only be considered juvenile disregard, or criminal intent. Either way, barring a heartfelt retraction and acknowledgement of idoicy, Mr. Ayers is not one I would consider a friend to this community.
