I can't agree. For my IV I am searching for an diesel engine.
The price of avgas in Europe, the fuel consumption of tsio550 etc.
everything stands for a diesel engine.

Yes, I know of much problems with them... vibrations etc.

But now the time has come where diesel engines are ready for our
planes. We just ordered the new Thielert TAE 125 diesel engine for
our C172 this engine is JAA approved, turbocharged and needs only
17l (4.2) Gallons per hour. It is the perfect machine for any 320.

But let's take a look at an engine for the IV and perhaps the ES.

It should deliver AT LEAST 300HP (270 continous). It should be
leightweigt and reliable.

The same manufacturer of the Thielert TAE125 is just testing an 310HP
V8 diesel engine, but my focus is the Volkswagen V10 TDI.
It is used in a new cross country car. This engine is able to deliver
310HP continous and has a torque of 750NM at 2500 RPM !! It needs
about 40l (10gallons) per hour. Just imagine... 9hours of save
flight time in a IV...
It is well mass balanced, max RPM is 4000. In the moment I am looking
for a suitable reduction unit. My intention is to use a clutch to
disengage the prob before starting and shutting of the engine.

What is your opinion? Could this be an interesting engine and what are
the thing we have to pay attention for??
