Note the FADEC ignition units are installed inside the cockpit area between the firewall and control panel (OK, not actually in the "cockpit"). The units appear to actually penetrate the firewall with the ignition wires only on the engine side of the fire wall. Pretty slick, really. While at first glance it looks like a lot of wires, look again. One shielded cable to each of six CHT, six EGT, a crank position device, MAP and a couple others. Now, I'm willing to bet most of you would have at least that on a non-FADEC engine. Maybe some thermocouple wires instead, but wires none-the-less. Then there are 12 ignition wires - same. Now there are six shielded cables to the injectors and it looked like possibly a couple other cables for something else. But, all in all that isn't a "lot more" wiring in my book. For me, routing those 6 or 8 cables is simpler than messing with the installation (and use) of just one mixture cable. Apparently Vision Micro can now interface their VM1000 to the FADEC units that are behind the firewall. While there will be some data need by the VM1000 on the other side of the firewall (oil pressure and temp?) all the EGT and CHT data supposedly comes from the FADEC. Maybe even RPM, MAP and fuel flow data. See, wiring is getting simpler ... But, alas, the cost and "newness" of this technology may scare many of us off for awhile. Why is it, Rick S., that you own a computer/software business but you're afraid of computer technology used on your engine? Is it cause you know something we don't? (just kidding, I too own a software development firm ...) ..
