You know ... this may sound rudimentary but it just came into me that if you want your wheel well to look nice and simultaneously have the option of repair ...

after you finish all structural lay-ups and have all the micro or West System in that you need for a good finish ... cover (epoxy) those areas that are most likely to give problems ( like you know ) with ... peel ply. Paint or what ever you want to do. If you have a problem, lift an edge and peel off around that area. Alternately, peel ply over the structural then micro ... paint ... etc.

Sounds kinda crude, but it offers both worlds without jeopardizing either structure or finish. Adds dreaded weight.
