"I avoid pulling the throttle at altitude to avoid shock cooling." I still struggle with the implied harm from the effect ... that is ... what is it? I think most imagine a cylinder head cracking. Although no one will argue there are affects on metal with sudden large thermal changes, there doesn't seem to be any empirical evidence these changes induce harmful affects to the degree we avoid inducing them or detecting them. I have brought it to the LML attention in the past about comments on "shock cooling" and wish to again so not to have the fear of harming your expensive engines cost you sleep or act without cause. I have received emails on my bringing this to everyone's attention as just "comments" from someone who nobody knows, Kas Thomas. I think there are enough wives tales out there that taking up mental cycles worrying about imagined scenarios warrants ... little or no time. Or maybe just enough time to read this article ... http://www.avweb.com/news/maint/182883-1.html Keep evidence the motivation to worry, purchase or change ... for many would be helpful technos, will be pleased to provide expensive instruments and gadgets to avoid ... nothing harmful.
