I humbly submit that a "branch of philosophy" studies nothing, it is merely a "branch of philosophy" which is patently incapable of action of any kind. On the other hand, if one states that it means "The branch of philosophy, who's practitioners study the nature of knowledge, its presuppositions and foundations, and its extent and validity", I'll buy it.
