No problem making the aileron trim tab like the elevator trim tab.  Just very small area to work in.  The general wisdom is to make the trim tab about 50% larger than the original factory recommendation inasmuch as the factory unit was not sufficiently effective.  Moreover, the trim tab in the aileron does not have as much leverage as the factory one that trails behind the traling edge.  I made mine 1.5 in. by 12 in. For a hinge, I recommend that you use the El Primo (my opinion) carbon piano hinge made by John Barrett (the "2thman@olympus.net" - John is a dentist with interests on the side).  John posts here periodically.  Cut it down in width by about 50% and bond in place with Hysol and flox.  It is much lighter than the aluminum hinge, has Teflon lining in which the hinge pin rotates, and can be bonded with confidence unlike the aluminum hinge.  I believe that John gets about $25/foot for the hinge material, and it is worth it.
