Good point about vertical G forces and energy absorbtion of down landing gear.  I remember seeing a chart of x for horizontal speed and Y for vertical speed.  As I remember, we have a three percent margin of forward speed from stall dirty speed for survival on an off field landing to eliminate what I call "the splat factor". Pretty close tolerances for us LNC2 flyers.
