Almost everyone would agree with you about the advisability of taxi tests! But you are forgetting the "British factor". .
Europe's off-shore island - land of my birth - suffers from probably the highest
"not invented here" syndrome existing on this Earth.

It sometimes results in brilliant designs like Spitfire, Concorde, Harrier - and
sometimes it results in stupidities like Mike Holland's test flight incident.

You have to remember that these gentlemen who inflicted this on Michael are the
same one's who declared the original small-tail Lancair, "non-airworthy", beyond
the abilities of normal UK pilots, and therefore not allowed on the UK register,
despite the evidence of scores of normal pilot's flying them elsewhere in the
world.

I read recently that one of these gentlemen flew a new UK Lancair in the company
of Don Goetz - I hope his previous arrogance is appropriately reduced.
