Angier, by how much do you need to shorten it? If it is less than 1/2 inch, you MIGHT be able to just cut off the shaft at the thread end. As long as you have adequate thread to engage the rod end, this will work. (at least it worked in ours). Of course doing that also shortens the retracted length so you'll need to see if you can adjust spacers to keep the retracted length where you want it.
