Dear all,

Lancair 320 MkI (G-FOPP) is slowly being converted in to a MkII following its oleo strut failure on the first flight.  The longer engine mount is a MUST, not only for the added stability but because it gives you all the room you need behind the engine for maintenance.  On this point I have a question.

My Woodward CSU is now mounted a good 3 1/2" further forward than before and, as such, is no longer tight inside the good-old "dogbowl" fixed to the firewall.  This means I can now fulfill the factory's dream of fixing the propeller control cable to a bracket coming off the engine, rather than the firewall (as before).  I have designed a bracket which bolts on to three of the four mounting bolts of the CSU but I am sure there must be a Piper or Cessna part which would adequately do this job for me without the hassle of having to get one made.  Any ideas from builders who have passed this way before?  My control cable needs to be fixed to the r/h side of the CSU, when facing forward.

Progress-wise I have just spent four full days re-fitting the engine. Lancair have accelerated my Hartzell prop delivery, all I now have to do is make the new (longer) cowlings.  I have written an article about my nose strut incident which I want to pass by Lance at the factory first in case he has any comments.  I will post it as soon as I am happy it is complete and useful to all other Lancair builders/operators.

Regards,

Michael
