Didn't
you forget something on your "Here is what it should look like" wiring
diagram?
The black wire coming out of the power pack should be the only
ground for the power pack in order to provide thermal
protection.
See Lancair Mail, 4th quarter, 94, page

Bob,
Nope, I specifically cut out that piece of the diagram because it says
"Note: This wire is not used." I know that Lancair changed that with later
commentary, maybe even a Service Bulletin. But, many of us have already
cut that wire down to the nubbin (nothing left) and thus do not have the thermal
protection that later builders have. Oh, wait -- I have just
recovered from a Senior Moment. I replaced my pump a few years ago and did
ground that wire. Thanks for the heads up. Of course, this also
changes the whole mounting scheme, i.e. The common grounded aluminum
mounting plate must not be attached to the pump itself but still must be used to
ground the relay cases.
That means it should look like this:
BTW, I hope no one has the 50A breaker mounted on the baggage
bulkhead! I have mine on the console just under my right wrist. John
Denver taught us a lesson about reaching for something behind whilst
excited.
