Victor,
I just read your e mail here on the LML, and it's rather
touching. I would not call it a downer, as it's real and a part of
aviation.
Victor, I've been going to the Reno Air Races since 1982, and
my passion to be a race pilot was born in 1978, when I was 9 years old. This
year, I will hopefully fly my first race in my Lancair 360.
Since 1982, I have come to know most of the unlimited race
pilots, owners and crew members. Fantastic people, much like our Lancair family.
I have a real passion for racing, and I have seen or received news of a person I
knew having an accident and losing their life. It's shocking, numbing, and it
does not compute. Rick Brickert was one... Gary Levitz. Bill Spear. The list is
long.
As an adult, I know that you know time heals many, many
things. I'm trying to make my point short and concise; but the bottom line is
this...
Take some time to heal and recover... Joining this family of
Lancair owners/builders/pilots is one of the most rewarding activities you can
choose to be part of. You have the ability to build and safely fly one of these
airplanes. You have the ability to safely judge yourself, the airplane, the
weather and the situation. You have the ability not to rush, and not to fly when
you don't feel like it.
You have already mentioned that you will have the time to fly
and build the skills, and you mentioned the training you will seek out. We don't
want to lose somebody like you - you're the perfect addition to our family. You
will enrich your family with the experiences you will have building and flying
your airplane.
We'll be here when you come to a final decision, and it would
be pleasure to meet you and shake hands. Take care, my friend!
