I recently removed my King KLN 90A and Arnav MFD 5000.
I replaced them with a Garmin 430 and Avidyne flight situation display. I did this because I was unable to find panel space to comply with switching, indicator lights, CDI to allow my KLN 90 to be converted to a "B", then be approved for GPS approaches. Plus, I've had nothing but bad results from products support etc. etc. from the Arnav. I would never recommend this company or its equipment to anyone.
On the positive side, after flying about 40 hours with the new equipment, I am very happy - with a few exceptions.
Because you won't hear or anything but raves about the Garmin 430, I will pass along a few things that I would like to see added to future upgrades.
1. There is no calculator page. The King calculator page was very useful to calculate true air speed and many other things.
2. There is no recorder for total time above 30 knots ground speed. I had come to rely upon that time in my records, and have had since to add a Hobbs meter. 3. The nearest function (in case the engine quits) is awkward for me to use in the 430. I keep trying to train myself, but there are several other functions that I have to keep going over in the manual to get them down. Old dog- New tricks I guess. Avidyne has that function and I need to learn it.
4. The databases are not compatible. You must purchase updates for both units. Bummer!
The combination of the Garmin 430 and Avidyne Navigator, works extremely well together. I love it!!!
