What happend to the Lancair Tigress? You dont see any around? Was this a
one of a kind airplane? Was it a flop? Did anybody order kits? Did
Lancair cancel the Tigress? Did Lance Neibauer build the Tigress for
hinself? Did the Tigress Crash?
I went to Redmond this past weekend to see the factory and get my first flight in a 360. The Tigress was there in the hangar getting tuned up and ready to go to Oshkosh. They said it has several hundred hours on it. I didn't ask when/if kits were going to be available but they will know at Oshkosh. I imagine one major project at a time is enough (Columbia 300).
My flight in the 360 was spectacular as expected. I was surprised that I felt more crammed in than I had hoped. Although I fit fine there was just no room to move around (6'2", 190#). We also loaded on a few more G's than planned and the big 360 with CS torqued down and the alternator belt burned a hole in the lower cowl. (felt very badly about that, luckily I wasn't doing the flying) Climb and cruse are pretty much as advertised. Best looking plane made anywhere IMHO.
The people were very friendly and helpful, the factory clean and well organized. The new "self-help" space looked fantastic. A couple of guys from Seattle were well into their IV kits in just a weeks time.
I recommend a trip to the factory is anyone is in the area. BTW, I also visited Vans if anyone is interested in hearing about that, e-mail separately.
