This unit is larger than the 430 and the expected price tag is $12,000. It is scheduled to be in production mid 2000. It has similar features to the 430 but more of them (not specified). The 430 is priced at over $9,000 (according to the report) - they had a couple of introductory prices in late '98 but both have expired. I've got a 430 on order - it should arrive within a month - I ordered it in Jan or Feb and expected delivery was July or August. The quoted price was about $6500 through my local avionics dealer. I also have a deposit on the SFS EFIS 2000 - for a 2 screen display. Jim Rahm is installing this system now in N420HP. (see my posting day before yesterday or so for address and phone#) I would assume that his will be the first of its kind in a Lancair IV or IVP. I think this is the closest thing readily available to the HUD inquired about. As I understand it, a true HUD superimposes flight data over the windscreen. The SFS unit is mounted in the panel, but if you have the 2000 unit which uses solid state inputs for gyro data to provide attitude information, then you have complete HUD information right in front of your eyes, with a gazillion additional pieces of info including terrain mapping etc. The list price for the system as I've ordered it is about $56,000. I've seen some introdcutory price information that trimmed a few grand off this nosebleed figure, but don't know what's the true order price now. I'd guess you could buy one through Jim Rahm for as good a price as anywhere and he may be able to provide some data on installing the device in the IVP. I understand he has arranged to be a distributer of the SFS product line. By the way, I ran into Gordon Pratt (one of the three movers at SFS) at West Yellowstone flyin last week. He tells me that the comm radio size box which holds the computer for the EFIS 2000 has been eliminated. They have been able to downsize the computer so that the whole thing is enclosed in the screen unit - it is about 6" square by 4" deep. No need to look for room to place the computer boxes. If you want to see what the EFIS 2000 does, you can download a demo of it at this website: http://www.sierraflightsystems.com/ It's the onscreen profile of an actual approach into Sun Valley.
