I am working on a Slo-Build option wing kit, and am trying to locate the
rear spars. The manual talks about a mark on the inboard end of the spar
to use for in-and-out location of the spar. My spars do not appear to have
any marks at all in the area discussed in the manual. I do not see any
other easy way to accurately locate the spar in an inboard-outboard
direction.
I am also trying to locate the spars in a fore-aft direction. The
instructions specify measurements from the leading edge of the wing to the
face of the spar at one BL station, and from the front spar face to rear
spar face at several other BL stations. When I try and locate the rear
spar using these dimensions, the spar is almost completely hanging off the
core outboard of the jog in the spar. This does not seem right to me. Further confusing me is an instruction that I should essentially ignore the
dimensions and slide the spar in a fore-aft direction until a 3/8 inch gap
is left between the spar and upper jig board to provide clearance for the
upper wing skin and core. To attain this gap, it looks like I need to move
the spar forward about 1 inch from the supplied dimensions. This has the
benefit of getting most of the spar back onto the cored skin, but then I am
concerned about being so far from the specified measurements. Any
suggestions/experience would be appreciated. 1) Any suggestion on how to locate the spars inboard/outboard?
2) Has the rear spar been off the core this much on other kits?
3) Are the supplied dimensions incorrect?
4) Any better means of locating the rear face of the spar than those given
in the manual?
Thanks in advance,
