I was recently contacted by my ISP's administrator with an interesting
tidbit of information and a request for assistance... it seems that my
homepage has grown quite a bit since I decided to start to house the LML
site there as well.  Their loosely-policed policy is to provide free web
hosting to their subscribers with a 5MB limit on the size of personal web
pages.  Well, with the LML in its present condition I found out that my
personal site was a bit larger than their limit... my total space
consumption on their servers had grown to three times that number!  I knew
I had a lot of stuff on there, but I didn't realize just how much there was.

Anyway, to make a long story short, they are a reasonable bunch and have
upped my limit to that number, but I decided that rather than look a gift
horse squarely in the mouth I would meet them half-way (well, 66% of the
way...) by removing the LML textfile archives from the LML homepage and get
my total site size back down to a volume that was a bit more manageable.
The LML weekly archived textfiles alone consumed some 5MB of space, so they
are no longer available there.  Their removal buys me an additional 5MB of
headspace, and when that number is reached I'm sure they'll be willing to
expand it a bit further again, so keep your tips and photos flowing...
everything is cool <g>.

The weekly ZIPfiles are still online, however, and are readily available to
anyone wanting to use them... I have even posted a note regarding the
process used (in DOS) to concatenate them into a single textfile on your
own computer to create your own easily keyword-searchable archive on your
desktop.  The only change is that you won't be able to view them online.
Personally I don't see that as much of a problem, as it's much easier to
pull them all together into one place and access them locally anytime you
want without having to go online at all.

I'm also working on a more organized version of the Attachments area and
hope to have that completed and uploaded to the LML homepage by the end of
the week.  Back when there were only 10-15 files it was ok to keep them
loosely organized according to their submission dates, but we have managed
to pull together a pretty voluminous collection of photos, drawings, and
data and I just felt we would be better served with it organized in a way
that makes finding a particular piece of information a more logical
exercise.  Stay tuned... I'll let you know the moment it's completed.

On an unrelated note, I just thought I would say that I really appreciate
all the kind things that have been said about me and my efforts with the
LML since the discussion started regarding turning the LML into some kind
of EAA chapter or type club.  Thanks again, one and all, for your vote of
confidence.  As for the EAA-involvement issue, I tend to agree with the
majority viewpoint that the LML is, and has been, functioning just fine
without any 'guidance' from a parent organization, and I am inclined to
forget about adding any unnecessary layers of bureaucracy to an entity
which is accomplishing its stated goals in its present condition.  The
incorporation of someone else's rules, regulations, and eventual added
expense makes little sense to me (and probably less sense to our non-USA
based members) and so I vote to keep things as they are.  We can retain the
flexibility to pursue that possibility at a later date if the EAA comes up
with a program that would make it worthwhile for us, but at the moment it
seems a rather single-sided pursuit, the only presently visible benefit of
which being added dues dollars making their way into the EAA coffers.

That's about it for now... keep those posts coming!
