If this is not the correct setting, why does the manufacturer's tool set the plugs to this gap? By the way, I fly my O-320 with standard Slick 43xx mags (non pressurized) at 17,000 ft, without a miss. My Champion iridium spark plug gap is set with Champion's gap setting gauge to .024. I am not trying to be a smart a... I have asked the Champion reps at Sun 'N Fun which of the 2 sizes on the gauge to use and they had no idea. I know that one is for platinum and one is for iridium. The size that is labeled "small" is, I believe, for the iridium and is set for .024. The second size is labeled "large" and is, I believe, for platinum plugs. This second size is set at .015. Has anyone else out there ever tried to set their plugs with Champion gauges or do you all just know better than the factory? Where are the written specs from Champion?
