I recently became interested in cutting through the morning fog off of Santa Rosa, CA, KSTS and began a lighting project for my LNC2 360. I went to ebay and found a set of the DC 3000 E halogen lights from autoaccessories4you. They list them as $19.99 with about $8.00 for shipping from Laguna CA. The housing is only 2 1/2 inches in diameter. The bulb is retained between a metal substructure and a high temperature custom molded elastomer. The ceramic electrical connector is large and robust. The wiring connections are plated to eliminate corrosion. The exterior finish is ceramic coated aluminum. The kit comes with everythng to hook up the lights as well - relay, switch, wiring, and connectors. They appear to be very elegantly (read that not overdone, over designed, under designed, or cheap) engineered. You can purchase them from a retail outlet as well. These will be fine for taxi, but probably not for landing. I have the old reliable, but Edisonian vintage life (25hrs harkens back at least a century) 4509 in in the nose. As we all know it will catch the center line in a dive, or inverted, but is useless on the ground.
