We soaked our cables in acetone for a couple of days and then again after
putting new acetone in a new container. We then sprayed them a hundred
yards downwind of the hangar in an open area with dry silicone lube - per
Tim Ong's suggestion. We let them dry in the sun for a few hours to
evaporate the aerosol and installed them in the nyloflow tubing with gloves
on.
Haven't flown yet, but they have been installed for about a year and no
noticebale increase in friction.

Great point Angier! I think most of us have had some increase in friction on our rudder cables. Just dust accumulation during construction must be
sticking to the cables and absorbing the lubricant in the cables.
