In the past I have suggested intumescent coating being applied to the firewall and nose wheel well.  Anyone who has seen a demonstration of putting a propane torch flame on a piece of standard epoxy lay-up or prepreg, and then compared it with a surface that has ~.025" of a good quality intumescent coating will have no doubt whatsoever what to do.  I have done both halves of my cowl, the fire wall exterior and interior, the nose wheel well, as well as inside the fuselage from the firewall back to just past the face of the instrument panel.
