I have an rc allen AI in my C172RG. It died at 100 hours but I am still not sure if that was the fault of the instrument or mishandling in the shop. The factory was very nice about it and made some other adjustements as well for no additional charge. I've got another 300 hours on it now with no problems. For the Lancair IVP I'm going with the new mid-continent unit. Way longer TBO and self-contained battery backup. Issues to consider: - having a backup AI is way better than not. I still love having the RC Allen there. - think about batter backup. I tried to setup a battery backup for min but the RC Allen really wants close to 12 volts to spin up and the battery packs I was using couldn't hack it. - RC Allen TBO is short My conclusion was the mid-continent is the way to go. It's $4000 but it's got long TBO and solves the batter problem.
