There are threads that are interesting and relevant to my plane occasionally and this is certainly one. I was thinking about this accident since it's just North of me in territory I fly in regularly. There is alot of farmland around there, and as Valin said, golf courses as well. Yet Shannon decided to try to make it to Madison. Ground quarterbacking is definitely easier than sitting in the hot seat when the engine quits, but I think the lesson that I'm going to TRY to take here is that if the engine quits, the insurance company owns the plane and I'm going to put it down wherever I think I have the best chance of making it out alive. I say TRY because we all know what effort, sweat, time away from our spouses, and the occasional bloody knuckles that we put into creating our one of a kind birds. Given the option I might have done what Shannon did, maybe not. Hopefully if I'm ever faced with that situation, something in the back of my mind will remember this one and say to me "screw the plane, put it down in a safe spot".
