There are all kinds of people and groups in the world.. some more
risk averse than others... In my day job designing medical imaging
devices, (CT Scanners) I experience many people paralyzed by the fear of
change. "We can't patch that Microsoft vulnerability that is crashing our
scanner until the full fda test plan is completed".   Mike Mahar's
sail boat races are often canceled because a TS is 300 miles away. So
when Eric Whyte, the venture cup race organizer, looks at the weather and
recommends a launch in less than ideal conditions, I'm impressed... it
was a good call, one I'd like to think I'd do if I was in his shoes but
it took guts and confidence in the racers to do it safely. Many of us
took extraordinary measures to keep the first part of the race safe.

The next thing that impressed me was how many people were *exactly* on
the magenta line.. most people I snuck under, (only one glass air driver
was flying below 250AGL) heck, it was a blast to split the difference
between two LongEZ..

I made two critical errors... was extremely lax getting onto the
magenta line at the last turn, (playing CHT games) and because
I had 12kts on Keath in Florida, thought 2750rpm rather than 2775
and 1300egt rather than 1400egt would be enough to hold him off...
it wasn't.. Keath is a super nice guy and he deserves the win.

racers are some of the best people you will come to know... they
are out there doing it, and its a ball to hang with them. hope to
see you out there too!
