Many thanks to Dr. Ted Noel for explaining the biological effects of CO exposure.  It truely is a wicked and sneaky poison.

As a side-note, I find it really amazing that about a third or more of our population--the smoking percentage--goes through life partially impaired by having 3-7% CO binding in their blood...

Dr. Ted mentions that 100% O2 is the treatment for this poisoning.  It brought to mind that probably lots of Lancair drivers know that O2 improves their performance in the cockpit, but for one reason or another fly without using it supplementarily.

I have two carbon fiber O2 tanks in my plane, and I always use a cannula when I fly, no matter if it is just a short hop somewhere.

I am not a smoker, but I have seen the marvel of the world lighting up at night when the O2 valve is opened.  It simply makes your brain work more efficiently.  And, Lancairs need efficient brains...

The fact that the O2 may prevent CO toxicity in the cockpit is a plus.
