My 320 has the extended wing tanks, 22 gal per side. I'm using
automotive fuel gauging equipment, and am happy with it. The senders are
float type, mounted through the BL 50 rib and are fitted up to phenolic
mounting adapters bonded into the rib. Bonded-in studs protrude inboard,
and the senders are removeable with the wing off. They are VDO p/n
221-012, modified by shortening the float arm to fit the tank. Paid
about $17.50 each at a local hot-rod shop. Gauge units are backlighted
VDO p/n 301-103 at about $43.00 each. They are from the VDO "Night
Design" series of instruments and come with red and green booties for the
bulb so you have a choice at time of installation of red, green, or
white illumination.
With a full tank, they show full and remain there until fuel is down to
about 18 gallons. They show 1/2 with about 9 gallons, and 1.5 gallons
gets into the red "reserve" band close to empty. They are affected by
sloshing, but are quite consitent in stable flight.
