I solved the 24 volt landing light problem with two 12 volt lights in series.  Has been working for over 4 years and have only replaced one light after stone damage.  In my case I used a spot light and a wide beam light to give me the best of both worlds.  The halogen lights are not the brightest in the world but do provide what you require.
