Learned something interesting today... when Ted's panel was built he incorporated the UMA electroluminescent lighting strips as his panel flood system, with 2- 24" strips mounted to the underside of the flange that attaches the glare shield.  In mounting the strips, the folks at Aerotronics cut a small slot in the flange for each strip, slid the strips through the slots and attached them to the inderside of the flange.  The terminal ends of the strips were folded back upon themselves in the area between the glare shield and the flange and wired into the rest of the panel wiring to attach to the inverter that drives the strips.  When powering up the strips today during some routine testing I discovered that the strips wouldn't light up... apparently they didn't like the severe bend that it took to get around the slot and back to the terminations.  (The short pieces of strip between the terminals and the bend would light up, but the strip below the flange wouldn't.)  The lighting was installed as per UMA's instructions, and so they are providing replacements under their standard warranty.  I've decided to take a bit of a different approach with the replacements and have crated a 2-BID ramp with a 1/2" radius that mounts to the top of the flange to route the strips to its underside.  This will keep the strips from making any severe bends and should allow the lighting to perform as advertised.   If you're thinking about using this stuff, please, no sharp bends.  I'll send some photos along when the new installation is finished.
