One thing the insurance companies are good at is collecting data. For many, many years, they've been auctioning off aircraft remains. They (the insurance adjustors) know, from their history of salvage auctions, the salvage value of any aircraft. From there, it's a simple numbers game.

After Ron's posting about Aircraft insurance, I was Thinking some more, and What I kind of want to know is WHO decides what the Salvage Valve is for the insurance companies??? aka his 50000 dollar example?
