As your email implied, it is different when it's your butt in the cockpit. As opposed to flying a simulator or an RC model. The disorientation can be incapacitating, but the good news is that a little bit of instruction should quickly expand your situational awareness to include some truly unusual attitudes. The carry-over from one aircraft type to another is actually pretty good, in my subjective opinion. And any qualified aerobatic instructor will take your experience level and aircraft type into account. I believe that the key is getting comfortable with the inputs and sensations, rather than perfecting the technique for symmetrical vs asymmetrical wings.
