I once got chewed when I did a 360 on cleared short final after a warning about the heavy that just departed.  The tower was giving the 5 min warning to a departure. I figured that if it was good to wait for departure, my incoming should be delayed as well.  Tower thought I should have gone around but they didn't suggest that.
