We arrive two days before AirVenture opens, very early in the morning to avoid the stress. We try to spend the first night in LaCrosse, WI (flying from northern California) so we have only 1 hour of flying to arrival with full fuel and feeling rested. Both my wife and I are pilots so that helps. Whoever is right seat keeps their head on a swivel. Be sure you completely understand the NOTAM http://www.airventure.org/2003/flying/avnotam_2003.pdf and stay in the high speed lane (2300' and 135 knots from Ripon to OSH) to avoid the Cubs and Champs at 1800'. Be prepared to adjust your landing/approach at the last minute. The tower can give instructions on short final. We volunteer for the 2 prior days which is always rewarding and makes you feel part of the event. They can use the help, there is plenty to do and lots of arrivals to watch.
