I believe this is a common problem, but the solution is very simple.  Rather than cutting away the center console bonding flange at the bottom, I did what Carsten did --- I cut approx. 1/4" off the top of the console where the panel rests.  Then re-glassed the top of the center console after the outboard panel attach flange layups were completed.
