Rick:

We build high-performance Lycomings for a few select customers, and have always used the B&C starter and linear regulator as an integral part of the engine package (which also icludes an improved inverted oil system, specially-designed cam, flow-developed and balanced heads, compression as high as 11 to 1, modified intake system, special ignition system, modified injectors, tuned-length headers, improved baffling, etc. etc. etc). As you might imagine, the cranking demands of an IO-540 with 11:1 compression and a  lightweight MT prop are pretty severe. With the B&C, they spin almost as if the plugs were out.

(BTW, this is not an advert. We are swamped with work.)
