1. Air temp sensor: I put mine as far outboard as possible without getting into the wing. It ended up on the under side of the wing root fairing, about half chord. If you mount it in the midline, or near the cowl, you'll get a lot of heating errors from engine and exhaust. If you go farther outboard, you've then got to figure out some thermocouple connector where you go into the wing.
2. As for the door, I built my first ES with the original ES door pins, my second using the IV-style latches. The original was a very poor design. Throw those parts out, except for the ones you can use for the IV-style latches. You'll have to get the factory to send you the chapter on door construction from the IV manual, unless by some miracle the ES manual has actually been updated for the IV-style latches. On my second one I used two of the IV latches at the bottom of the door, which worked much better. Getting it all aligned and working, however, was quite a chore. Also, the S-shaped groove in the latch mechanism is not designed quite right, so it took a lot of fiddling with small files and grinders to make them work smoothly.
3. There's an air box design that's been kicking around for several years, although for some reason the factory people pretend they don't know about it. The molds are at Top Flight Services, Merritt Island, FL. Last I heard they were still making them, but I don't have a 'phone number that I can find; you could probably find them in the AOPA Airport Directory. [Try them at 321-449-0870... ask for Rob. Their air box is very cool. <Marv> ]
4. A lot of upholstery shops do seat belts. The custom car places often replace them all to match custom upholstery. Might be worth a shot, and bound to be a lot cheaper than the ones with official TSO blessing.
