who make the best probes?

I would recommend buying the probes from Electronics International. They have the electronic circuitry external to the probe and it can be changed easily. VM has theirs internally mounted in the hub. If it goes out, you have to ship the tube back to them for repairs. For most airplanes in the Lancair stable, that means taking the wing off. Furthermore, if you decide not to go with the full 100 or 800 engine system, they'll soak you pretty heavily to buy just the fuel gauge because you have to buy 2 other expensive pieces of equipment - in addition to the gauge. If you decide to buy the VM probes, they will work with the Electronics International fuel gauge and all you have to buy is their guage. Furthermore, if VM suspects that you are not going to use their systems, they will not be helpful in giving you the data to use the probes on another system - like a Blue Mountain EFIS/ONE.>
PS - The VM fuel monitor and display allow for up to three tanks.
But the two extra probes are not included, as I recall and their probes are expensive. You can buy VM probes from Lancair, but they sell only 12 footers on the assumption that one can cut them down. This is true, they are easy to cut to length, but look out for the shipping costs!!! A lot of folks are using VM and like their engine monitoring system. I personally would look at other systems and this is especially true if you are looking only for the fuel quantity system.
