<< Lancair Builders' Mail List >>
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<--->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This subject has been addressed many times over the past few months, as
well as on many times on CompuServe AVSIG Forum a few years ago but perhaps
now is the time to repeat what I found out while looking at the various GE
MR16 bulbs which are commonly known as "projector" bulbs. All of the
standard production bulbs do not use the filament or focal length which is
desirable for "landing light" purposes. A GE engineer did some prototype
development and I and other Lancair/Glasair builders tried out these
prototypes. They are awesome. Bob Chesley who is just about to launch his
Lancair has one of them. Perhaps he can give personal testimony to their
"pencil" like beam which pierces about 2000 ft. Production runs of these
bulbs by a small boutique manufacturer near GE will be made for the Lancair
Eagle 540 V8 project and will be part of the wing extension or tiplet
design. Design specs are 100watts, 12v. Will post notice here when they
are available.
