I have spent way more time than is sane on landing lights. One of the
paths that lead me nowhere was looking closely at Xenon lights that
started appearing on various German luxury automobiles, these lamps are
made by Hella. They have wonderful attributes such 160% the light output
compared to a 100W halogen lamp with 35% of the input power. That was
too compelling to resist. The Xenon lamp is a gas discharge tube that
needs to be ignited (very high voltage) and fed with a regulated current
once going. All of this results in a costly power pack which needs to be
fail safe in order to protect rescue workers in the event of an accident
etc. etc. All of this started going against the KISS principle which I'm
trying to stick to in the building of my ES.

So I'm currently back on the path of halogen "projector" bulbs mounted
in the wing's leading edge. Details to go up on my web site
(http://www.teleport.com/~peweston) when I have results to report.
