The problem was that the originally specified Hysol was unavailable -- the old version contained asbestos and was superseded by another version. This new version (9430) is what is included in the Aircraft Spruce catalog. Dexter has a fax-by-phone system whereby you can request data sheets for their products. Interestingly, 9430 is a product of their commercial division in Seabrook, New Hampshire, not their aerospace division. During this process I learned that each Hysol is quite different and should be researched carefully before substituting a different version. 9430 and 9339 are not the same. They don't even look the same. (I have their data sheets somewhere, but you can probably find them faster by phone than I can by digging through my storage boxes.) While 9430 is good stuff -- I used it on the Monerai wings and tail -- I wouldn't use 9430 in place of 9339 unless Lancair gives their approval. Which, to my knowledge, they haven't. - Rob Wolf rwolf99@aol.com
