Concerning Continental warranty:

Initial start of my brand new, right out of the box IO550 resulted in a broken fuel pump shaft.  Continental's response: "I" didn't properly monitor storage of the engine and perform the periodic inspections and maintenance that was required to sustain warranty status.  This was on an engine delivered to me directly from Continental with all their seals and packaging.

Ultimate outcome:  Approximately $1300 outlay for new pump and labor.

Sure glad I protected myself by purchasing new.
